There are a handful of words & phrases that, when used in a review or promo blurb, cause me to recoil in horror and reach for the garlic and cross for protection. For books, the main culprit is 'luminous'. Not a bad word, but in the context of cover blurbs a virus every bit as horrifying as Ebola.
Today's entry on the Scroll of Shame, regarding an album:
"wistful Americana"
I'd rather eat a Big Mac fashioned from tofu and misery than subject myself to that.
