The best way to honor veterans is to avoid fighting pointless wars which shatter bodies and spirits and provide unstinting support when their service is done. Recent American history has demonstrated an unslakable thirst for pointless wars coupled with a miser's parsimony in dealing with the resultant human wreckage.
I'll be skipping the public displays by politicians and other entities eager to wrap themselves in the flag, substituting a pair of films that memorialize the 'War to End Wars' with acidic, gimlet eyed clarity:
