books: amazon's grand plan

Found this nugget buried at the end of an article titled Amazon's Hit Man:

In that world there could be even fewer traditional bookstores than there are now, and Amazon may look a whole lot more appealing to prominent authors.

Good information overall, but the lack of insight in that graf is startling.
That's Amazon's whole game- push ereaders, kill what's left of the physical distribution system (basically, bookstores) so Amazon becomes the only real outlet for authors and publishers, and voila, effective monopoly!

I'm not surprised the publishers were stupid enough to welcome Amazon with open arms only to be startled years later to find they'd grasped a scorpion to their bosom- it's a hidebound industry not noted for creative forward thinking.
