Werner Herzog's Greatest Voicovers (+ bonus Netflix Watch Instantly coverage)

Werner's Voicover hits.

The first clip, from Burden of Dreams, is one of the greatest documentary scenes ever filmed. Several lines from that monologue have become family catchphrases.

Burden of Dreams is three fourths of the greatest 'making of' documentary ever, but it falters rather unfortunately down the stretch. The production dragged on so long director Les Blank ran out of funding and had to leave the production, reducing the impact of the final product. Even so, it's required viewing.

and hey look, it's on streaming!
Burden of Dreams

Not one of Werner's strongest works, but engaging enough and with several flashes of brilliance. Honestly, his voiceovers are so mesmerizing I'd probably sit rapt on the couch while watching him read the phone book.

And with Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans we've plumbed the extent of his diasppointingly skimpy Watch Instantly presence. Not much commentary to offer- it's on my queue but I haven't gotten to it yet. Still, it's hard to imagine the freakish brew of Werner and Cage making a 'not sequel' to one of the stranger films of the 90's producing anything less than a compelling cinematic experience.
