I recall doing a post on this last year, or maybe the year before, but MY LAWD the college football bowl landscape has become a topographic billboard of capitalism's distended underbelly.
It's reached a point where the least offensive offerings are simple quid pro quo advertisements-
The Godaddy.com Bowl
Little Caesars Bowl
Chick-Fil-A Bowl
The next ring of hell is reserved for simple advertisements that extract a rueful chuckle from the disbelieving viewer-
The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl
Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas (which I saw some of- their effort to 'brand' the event by imposing their sponsor's bright yellow color on everything in sight gave the huge football at mid-field an uncanny resemblance to a lemon.)
Then there are the 'word salad' games, which require a decoder ring to decipher-
AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl
BEEF 'O' BRADY'S BOWL
MAACO BOWL LAS VEGAS
R+L CARRIERS NEW ORLEANS BOWL
Then, the Military Industrial Complex gets a say-
BELL HELICOPTER ARMED FORCES BOWL
Military Bowl Presented By Northrop Grumman
And the capstone of ridiculousness, a college bowl game sponsored by an education privatizing diploma mill-
BRIDGEPOINT EDUCATION HOLIDAY BOWL
Hurrah for 'amateur' sports!
