Best of Netflix Watch Instantly: The Boys (documentary) & Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus (not documentary)

The Boys is an interesting look at the career of the Sherman Brothers, who you may not have heard of but whose work you know by heart, as they wrote many of Disney's most indelible tunes.

The movie was made by their sons, which generated a lot of access but prevented investigation of the mystery at the heart of their collaboration- what led to their personal estrangement and the estrangement of their families?

There's a lot of talking around this point, family members commenting on how strange it was, outsiders noting the friction between the brothers, but the cause is ignored, the void at the center of the cyclone. Some hardnosed investigation would have made a more compelling film, but it's a worthwhile watch even so. It covers plenty of musical history, from vaudeville on, and the access pays off in family photos and great behind the scenes footage of the brothers at work.

As a tale of brothers it's seriously flawed, but as the story of an unparalleled musical career it's a smashing success. Either way, it was a few hours well spent.

And for something completely different:

I haven't seen it, but c'mon now- a six pack, a bowl of popcorn and MEGA SHARK vs CROCOSAURUS is exploitation nirvana!

For your recent posts, instead of the images or video links or whatever, I just see the word "Advertisement" and a lot of gray space. Not sure if it's just me . . .

I'm just using the 'embed' code off Youtube- I'll check on some other browsers and see how it looks.
