On defining 'victory'

The Good News
Old chum Pelf achieved another of his goals, copping a review from the NYT.

The Bad News
This is the review.
That is the satirical premise of Clifford Chase’s well-reviewed 2006 debut novel, called — what else? — “Winkie,” and now of an irritating reduction into play form by Matt Pelfrey, a staff writer on MTV’s “Skins.” Mr. Chase’s name has become part of the title, but elsewhere, this Godlight Theater Company commission does the author no favors.

Discovered in this morning's email accompanying the poisonous link:

NYTIMES tries to break PELFS WILL
...but they can't. Little do they know my major goal was to get reviewed by the NY Times -- I never said it had to be a GOOD review. Like Captain Kirk, I snatch victory from a desolate landscape where most only see defeat.

Dear readers, this is the mentality necessary to 'make it' in the writing game.
