30 Day Song Challenge Day Eight: A Song That You Know All the Words To

I could probably do the the whole album from memory even though it's been decades since I've heard it end to end. That tape lived in my walkman.

Back in the day deciphering Kate's lyrics was a labor of love- no lyric sheets, no internet lookup, just endless repetition and the intensely neurotic focus an alienated teenager could devote to the pursuit of minor revelation.

I can remember sitting in my room, listening to the radio from my boom box, at *length*, with my finger right near the record button on the built-in tape player, so that I could start recording the minute my favorite song came on the radio. After recording it, I would play it over and over and over until I learned the words. I have vivid memories of completing this process for the song "Heavy Metal" (from the movie of the same name). Ah, the 80's.

do all of us of 'a certain age' have these kinds of stories? Probably.

I tell the Youngfriends(tm) about seeing Star Wars 20+ times in the theater (because that was the only way to see it) and they look at me like I'm crazy.
