Going...Going...Going.......GALT!

Some rich tech dude who owes his success in part to the Government enforcing a stable, supportive environment for his entrepreneurship has decided to create a floating libertarian Utopia in international waters.

The Silicon Valley billionaire has funnelled $1.25 million to the Seasteading Institute, an organization that aspires to launch a floating colony into international waters, freeing them and like-minded thinkers to live by Libertarian ideals.

They can already do this in splendid petrie dishes for Libertarian philosophy like Somalia, but I guess 'floating cities' sound sexier (and whiter).

The floating sovereign nations that Thiel imagines would be built on oil-rig-like platforms anchored in areas free of regulation, laws, and moral conventions.

Mr Thiel and his colleagues say their ocean state would have no welfare, looser building codes, no minimum wage, and few restrictions on weapons.

Oceangoing cities with no building codes? Full of citizens free of moral conventions and armed to the teeth?

What could possibly go wrong?

Plus, I see a golden REALITY TEEVEE opportunity.

Oh wait...that's right, they already did it.

/edit
I wonder if they'll call it Rapture?

They've already done this more than once: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principality_of_Sealand
