I have a dream, a vision of the ultimate mix CD.
I have a self explanatory title for this creation:
The Compilation that Celebrates Itself: a Journey to the Dark Heart of Shoegaze
I have tracks in mind, but laboring beneath the weight of such a grandiose title I feel compelled to perform some audio archaeology. I'm not limiting myself to the 'official' shoegaze acts (Ride, Slowdive, etc etc), I'm looking for ancestors and descendants as well, and also offshoots and one-offs. I'm hip to the obvious stuff like MBV and I'll be trolling the internet for ideas, but anyone with suggestions drop 'em here.
People have had trouble playing back 8tracks embeds, so I'll also be on the lookout for another digital delivery system- it might finally be time to sit down and figure out podcasting.

my suggestion is that you give me a copy of this compilation, OR ELSE!
Alcest
A Place to Bury Strangers
Ringo Deathstar
Skullflower (IIIrd Gatekeeper, although it probably veers to heavily towards "drone".)
Too heavily, rather.
@meek: very helpful!
@mal: your compilation has yielded a couple of sure things and a few more 'maybe's. Also, track-by-track review coming soon.
