This morning's fascinating detour off the information superhighway. Fascinating for amateur graphic design wannabes like your humble narrator, anyway.
Here's Eric Skillman's blog, which dives deep into the thought processes and artistic techniques he employs in Criterion's service.
And another of their artists, Sam Smith. This post on his creation of the cover for Solaris is mind boggling and vastly more entertaining than the film itself (he said, heretically).
Also do yourself a favor and take a spin around Neil Kellerhouse's place. His amazing Criterion stuff is just one chip in the mosaic of genius. This is now my favorite promotional website of all time, even laboring as it does under the heavy burden of my Flash prejudice.
I'd also like to thank the original post for introducing me to the wild world of fake Criterion covers.
A fine way to blow a couple of hours on a rainy Saturday!
